What to Pack
come prepared for your visit to Vancouver
Vancouver is known for its year round mild temperatures and its long spring and summer season. Vancouver’s climate is very similar to other northwest destinations such as Seattle (with less rain) in nearby Washington State. Below are some basic guidelines about things you should pack for your Vancouver adventure. Feel free to visit our weather page for current conditions and other Vancouver weather information.
Spring/Summer
April-September
Typically Vancouver experiences a warm, mild spring and summer. The bulk of Vancouver’s yearly rainfall occurs in the fall and winter months. Generally speaking between April and September the days stay warm, but the nights can get cool, especially if you are used to warmer/dry climates.
What to pack:
- khakis, jeans, or slacks
- long shorts
- casual dresses
- light sweaters
- fleece jacket for layering
- sunglasses and sunscreen
- sandals and comfortable walking shoes
As always it is also advisable to bring a lightweight rain coat and/or an umbrella as a quick rain shower can occur at just about any time. Some hotels such as the Vancouver Marriott Pinnacle Downtown Hotel are pleased to loan out complimentary umbrellas during your stay with us.
Fall/Winter
October-March
When visiting Vancouver in the fall or winter months, you should pack for cool temperatures and wet skies. The vast majority of Vancouver’s rainfall occurs during from late fall (November) until early spring (March). While Vancouver is not known for large amounts of snowfall, it isn’t uncommon to experience the odd day a snow in the late winter months.
What to pack:
- warm coat
- warm sweaters
- a hat or toque, scarf and light gloves
- long pants
- a lined raincoat
- umbrella
- waterproof footwear or lightly insulated boots with socks
Generally speaking Vancouver is a casual city with plenty of choice when it comes to entertainment and dining out. Dress up slightly for evenings on the town. Women will impress in a nice dress and flats, while men will do well in slacks and a button-down shirt.
